Don't wait for your ship to come in
Ever been stuck in traffic along Mounts Bay Road or the freeway, looked out at the river and seen a yacht racing past or a couple of youngsters bouncing along in a sailing dinghy? Looks like fun, doesn't it? Discover Sailing thinks so too, so much so that they organise free Discover Sailing days at sailing clubs all over the country.
Sailing is fun for all ages
At a typical day, participants of all ages can help to rig a boat and go for a sail with an experienced skipper. Boats of different sizes are usually available. During the day there's also ample opportunity to meet club members and learn about the social side of membership.
This year Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club is participating in the Discover Sailing event. Adults and children are welcome to come along, meet members and staff of the club and of course hop in a boat.
There's no need to know port from starboard - all you need is an interest, a jacket, sunscreen, soft-soled shoes that you don't mind getting wet and (just in case) a change of clothes.
