You've envisioned the joy of gliding on a glistening sea, ocean breezes, casting your cares away, sails flapping and waves splashing aboard a cruising vessel, with wonderful company. You may have thought this was a pipe dream. Well, gather together some eager seafaring friends and family. Your vision is about to become reality as the Royal SA Yacht Squadron (RSAYS) treats you all to some magic on the water this Sunday, October 26th. It is Discover Sailing Day . A day of all things sailboats offered to you for free. Landlubbers across Australia can take the opportunity to try out their sea legs. For free. For fun!

You don't need a boat. You don't need a membership. You don't need to 'know somebody'. Go get that sailing outfit you've set aside for just such an occasion. Wear some shoes you don't mind getting wet. Slip on sunscreen and a hat, and you are set to discover sailing. Boats, safety equipment and all other necessary gear provided. And it gets better.

You can tour and inspect a racing boat, cruising boat or a junior boat. Enjoy hospitality on the quarterdeck Marina and explore the wonderful facilities. Find out all you ever wanted to know about boat maintenance. It may come in handy for your future ocean ride. Sincerely, the RSAYS 'looks forward to welcoming you and showing you how fun, accessible and affordable sailing is'. You may even feel compelled to take home a membership information pack following the excitement of being amongst fellow cruising enthusiasts.

Take an opportunity to talk with Heidi and other personnel about Junior Sailing on Sundays, which goes from now through to April. Enquire about Twilight Racing on Wednesdays from 6pm, when crews sail out until the sun goes down, returning to enjoy dinner together on the quarterdeck. Ask about Saturday Club Racing, and Ladies Racing some Sundays. It may be the sailor's life for me.

Australia's very own round the world sailor and 2011 Young Australian of the Year, Jessica Watson has this to share. "The great thing about sailing is there are so many different kinds. There's adventure kinds, racer, endurance sailing, and there's nice champagne and cheese sailing."(my personal favourite).

It has been a busy week. Your antidote may well be some air in your hair. Need more inspiration? Liesl Tesch, of the Australian Sailing Team says, "When you're out there on the water, everything else is out of your mind and it's just you and nature, and enjoyment." Say no more, sign me up!

Sunday, October 26th. Be there, or be on land. It's Discover Sailing Day. Come along and bring everyone. You will be so happy you did.
