Lyndoch is a small historic town located 56kms north-east of Adelaide on the Barossa Valley Highway. Originally spelt "Lynedoch", it was named by Captain Francis Light when he arrived in the region on his journey north of Adelaide in December 1837. He camped in the area and named it Lynedoch Vale, after his highly esteemed friend Lord Lynedoch. By September 1840, it had grown into a thriving settlement of 100 people. Later down the years due to mis-spelling, it was changed to Lyndoch Valley.

Today Lyndoch is a small country town with a serene lifestyle. Vineyards surround the town and it is home to many well-known cellar doors and wineries.

Right in the town centre is a beautiful big park called the Lyndoch Village Green. A big covered area with many tables and chairs gives visitors a place to stop by and have lunch. There is also a covered BBQ area and toilet facilities.

Not far from the town, is the Lyndoch Hill Rose Garden which boasts over 30,000 roses. The rose garden was opened by Her Majesty The Queen in February 2002. The famous Barossa Chateau is on the same grounds and has an art and antique gallery which showcases the largest porcelain collection in Australia. The Chateau offers a special tour of the art gallery with beautiful high tea or lunch.

Along the main street are unusual shops and there is also a bakery and cafes offering good coffee and local produce. Designated as "the first taste of the Barossa", Lyndoch is very popular with tourists and locals alike.
