If you've been thinking about studying online and are interested in sustainable living, then now is a great time to start.
The University of Tasmania is currently offering a 100% HECS scholarship and Students Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF) waiver for all units in the Diploma of Sustainable Living, which means that
the course is available at no cost for eligible students.
The diploma consists of 8 units and is offered completely online, which make is perfect for people living in regional or remote areas of Australia, or those who may be juggling work and family commitments, and can't attend face-to-face university classes. The course is also flexible, so you can choose to study 1 unit at a time, or take on a full-time study load if you'd prefer.
Course StructureThe Diploma consists of 2 compulsory units and 6 electives.
Complete the 2 Core Units:
Introduction to Sustainability Literacy
Local Lives for a Sustainable Planet
Choose 3 units from 2 of the following specialisations:
Environment, Ecology and Planet
Resource Use and Design for Living
Well-being and Health to Promote Sustainable Living
Social Justice, Equity and Diversity
Some of the elective units include:
Introduction to Sustainable Design for Houses
Sustainable Design for Houses and Landscapes
Developing your Creative and Entrepreneurial Potential
Living and Working with Cultural Diversity

AssessmentsThere are a range of different assessment methods, including quizzes, assignments, online discussions, and other tasks (eg. Garden Design Brief and Draft Plan).

Eligibility:
The 100% HECS Scholarship and SSAF waiver is available to all Australian citizens. It is also available to citizens of New Zealand, Permanent Residents, and Humanitarian Visa Holders provided that studies are undertaken while residing in Australia.
Other things to remember:
As part of the enrolment process, all students will be required to complete an eCAF form to receive the HECS scholarship, so make sure you submit the form before the census date.
The university allows up to 3 years to complete the course, however, please note that the 100% HECS scholarship and SSAF fee waiver is currently only available for units with a census date prior to 31st of December 2021.
