Something about this place has clearly made an impact on people, judging by the way everybody keeps talking about it. Most of the time, it's just a casual mention of 'this chocolate desserts place in Bangsar' but I never actually met anybody who's been there and tasted what they had to offer. So I decided this is something I should find out for myself; my family were pretty keen on it as well, so off we went to Bangsar.

The cafe is located in the midst of the busy hub of shop-lots next to the Bangsar Village malls, where finding parking is a quest that usually finds you driving around in circles. We parked in the basement of Bangsar Village II and walked down the street to where the cafe is, opposite Alliance Bank. It was full then, so we came back in a half hour to find just enough space for the five of us (the waiters had to grab a chair from outside to accommodate us).

The menu is practically dripping in chocolate treats, though the combination is mostly of crepes, brownies and fruits. I wanted a sort of cinnamon crepe pouch (not shown in the online menu) but they had run out of those. I wasn't too surprised, considering how crowded the cafe was.

We waited a good 15 minutes for the first dessert to arrive: a brownies crepe. This dish is made up of a large, square brownie wrapped in a thin crepe and topped with a pretty pattern of white, milk and dark chocolate. So how was it, taste-wise? To be honest, kind of disappointing. The brownies were thin and tasteless, and the texture of the crepe was lost among the chocolate. The chocolate itself was alright, though not as rich as I hoped.

Not soon after we finished that dish, then the eclair pyramid arrived. We were kind of surprised with the presentation, as the waiter simply placed a plate of stacked eclairs in front of us along with a cup of milk chocolate sauce - we had to pour the sauce ourselves. Maybe this is the biased dark chocolate lover in me speaking, but I do believe that a dark chocolate sauce would have made this dish a lot better. Overall, it was better tasting than the brownies crepe though the eclairs were cold as if taken straight from a fridge. It made us wonder why it took them so long to serve us.

Finally, we got the third and final dessert, which was half a waffle served with an assortment of fruits. We paid a little extra for a scoop of chocolate ice-cream. The waiter (a different one from the one before) poured the chocolate sauce on it for us this time. This was also not as great as we were expecting - we only got half a waffle, and it wasn't even hot and fluffy, like how a waffle should be. The fruits were just alright, though the kiwi slices were a little overly ripe and the milk chocolate sauce was just ordinary. For something that costs almost RM40, I would expect more quality.

I wondered if they waited for us to finish each dish to serve the next one, which is a little strange - what if everybody had ordered a dessert individually and not to share? Service was really slow, and the waiters weren't very friendly. I'm really not sure what all the fuss was about - a lot of other reviews online are praising the richness of the chocolate, which to me was pretty standard. I've tasted way better chocolate desserts, and this was ridiculously overpriced for what we got. If you're thinking of going out for chocolate desserts, best find another place. Dip 'n Dip just doesn't feel like it's worth it.
