See life-sized, moving, breathing dinosaurs at Qld Museum
It took dinosaurs sixty-five million years to re-appear in Brisbane after their catastrophic extinction, but they must have liked what they saw at Queensland Museum in 2015 because they're back in town for a special encore season from 21 June to 9 October 2016. And I speak from experience when I say that you, and any 5 to 8 year olds of your acquaintance, really don't want to miss Dinosaur Discovery: Lost Creatures of the Cretaceous.

Visitors will be taken back in time to a lost world millions of years ago when dinosaurs were the top of the food chain. More than 20 animated dinosaurs will be on life-like display, swinging their tails, breathing, roaring, and blinking.

[ADVERT]You'll swear you've just walked on to the set of Jurassic Park when you're face to scary face with these life-sized, sharp-toothed predators and large and leathery herbivores. What child could resist the charms of spinosaurus, velociraptor and a 12m high T-Rex? They'll also be introduced to Australian dinosaurs such as the Leaellynasaura and the Muttaburrasaurus, along with Australovenator Wintonensis, a fierce carnivorous predator; the Australian equivalent of the velociraptor. The skeletal remains of many of these dinosaurs have been discovered right here in in Queensland and have informed much of the knowledge we have about these cretaceous creatures.

The exhibition combines the latest in the science of paleontology with 21st century animatronics and, having taken my grandson to last year's exhibition, my photos attest to the quality of these amazing creatures, which were created using clay models, 3D drawings, steel frames, foam and motors. Life on earth 145 million years ago is suddenly very accessible.

One of the special features of Dinosaur Discovery is the Dinosaur Discovery App which has unique 3D content that will really allow you to bring these incredible creatures to life. Read all about it and download it from the iTunes store here or Google Play here.
