Have you ever wanted to learn the tips and tricks of exquisite nature photography from an award-winning photographer? Then the Australian Museum has something for you! Come along on one of three days to the
Digital Wildlife Photography for Beginners on either the 27th of July, the 7th of September or the 8th of September from 10.30 until 1pm, or the
Intermediate session if that’s the right level for you, on the same days from 2.30pm until 5.30pm.
Both workshops will be run by the award-winning photographer Angela Robertson-Buchanan, and be awed by the
2023 Australian Geographic Nature Photographer of the Year, a South Australian Museum Exhibition before you head over to the pop-up photography studio at the Australian Museum for a three-hour workshop – one aimed at beginners, and another aimed at those at an intermediate level.
During the beginner’s workshop, you will unlock the potential of your digital SLR camera, and learn simple yet creative shooting techniques as you experiment with your equipment and its modes, aperture, ISO and shutter speed. And, you will get to test your skills on the taxidermy collection in the museum, as well as a hand-reared live animal in controlled conditions to ensure safety for everyone.
If you’re taking part in the Intermediate workshop, you’ll be taking your knowledge up to another level with more advanced shooting techniques that can be used in studio and field photography. Angela will take this course as well. and you’ll learn to experiment, delving into the intricacies of your camera modes, the aperture and the ISO and shutter speed. And like the beginner course, you’ll use tour skills on items in the museum’s taxidermy collection and a live animal in a carefully controlled environment.
These workshops have a limited capacity of 15 people - which allows for individual attention and feedback - and don’t forget to bring your own DSLR camera and memory card on the day.
These workshops are recommended for attendees aged sixteen and over. They are overseen by a licensed animal education specialist from Australian Wildlife Displays and no wild native animals will be used. The workshop will ensure that the comfort of animals is prioritised at all times, with lighting, noise and temperature controls in place. The workshops will take place in the Patricia McDonald Education Room at the museum.
