5 Different School Holiday Courses for Kids Summer 2012/2013
[SECTION]5 Different School Holiday Courses for Kids Summer 2012/2013[/SECTION]
At the moment the prospect of summer holidays is delightful: long, hot days, Christmas in the offing, everyone full of seasonal, good cheer. But after the presents have all been unwrapped, the turkey and ham demolished and the kids finally tire of their computer games, what then? Get them outside of course, out in the fresh air and sunshine, boosting their vitamin D and fitness levels, and having a great time as well.
While there's nothing wrong with the regular sporting programs and activities offered by local councils and sports providers your child may be more tempted by something a bit out of the ordinary. So if you want to think outside the sporting box this summer here are some great courses available in Brisbane and surrounds during December and January.
[SECTION]Surfing[/SECTION]
I bet you thought you had to go all the way to the Gold Coast for surfing lessons. Wrong.
Get Wet Surf School also provide lessons by highly qualified instructors at Whitewater World at Coomera (not quite all the way to the Gold Coast). They offer a money-back guarantee that you will be able to stand during your first lesson. The cost is $75 for a 2 hour lesson, which includes use of the board and photos of your lesson on CD.
See all the information here .
Of course they also provide lessons at Surfers Paradise, where prices range from $20 per person for a family lesson (2 adults and 2 children) to $95 for a private lesson.
See details here .
For details of other surfing schools on the Gold Coast see
Carsie's article here .
[SECTION]Golf[/SECTION]
I've only ever played one round of golf (the less said, the better) but my husband and sons tell me it's great fun. At least that's what they say after a good round, I probably can't print what they say after a bad round. That aside, golf is good exercise for the mind and body and you're never too young to learn. Victoria Park is at 223 Herston Road, Herston in Brisbane's inner north. They offer
2 hour junior golf clinics for kids aged 4 to 8 and
2 day junior golf camps for kids aged 6 to 17 these summer holidays. Prices range from $39 for the clinics to $150 for the camps.
See here for details, dates and times .
Brisbane Golf Club also offers school holiday junior golf clinics. Please call (07) 3848 3158 for details.
