Petrie Terrace Gallery is currently hosting the Royal Queensland Art Society's very first Sculptural and Object based Art Exhibition.

The Gallery itself is beautiful - an open, clean, white space which feels welcoming and where work is artistically displayed.

Different Dimensions features work by jewelers, sculptors, potters, bookbinders, glass makers and fibre artists.artists from Carte Blanche, Fusions (Australian Network of Clay & Glass Artists), and the Jewelers & Metalsmiths Group of Queensland.

I'm not a huge fan of sculpture so I was pleasantly surprised to find that I loved the exhibition. Every item was wonderful in some way. The mosaics were brilliant, the larger pieces were eye catching ( the carved wooded shell would be magnificent in an entry way), the bilbies were adorable ( I didn't take photos - you'll have to go in and see for yourself)

Choosing just one for the People's Choice award was so difficult.

Unfortunately we have missed Opening Night: but can still make the announcement of the Peoples Choice Award and Closing Event at 1.30pm on the 15th March 2014.

Works are all for sale! Take money. You are sure to find something you can't leave without.

RQAS website says it is the oldest (1887) and most influential Art Society in Queensland. The Society aims to encourage the understanding and appreciation of art in all its forms.

Membership is available to practicing artists, and to all Queenslanders with a general interest in the arts. Members receive a newsletter and access to an extensive library. Members Get Togethers are held on the last Sunday of each month 2pm - 4pm with a lecture or demonstration by a Guest Speaker.
Ample free parking is available in the streets around and in front of the gallery. Know where you are going as it is a busy one way street and if you miss it you'll have a convoluted drive to get back. Wheelchair access is at ground level of the Gallery from the front door.

Across the road is a pleasant park where you could stop for a snack or you can eat in - Scouts for daytime and Tibetan Kitchen for evening.

Nick Leavey's Tuesday classes in Still Life Oil painting offer everything from tuition in basic drawing technique to the more complicated aspects of dealing with tone, colour and form.

Your artwork can be undertaken at your own pace, and pieces can be completed over a day, or a number of weeks. You can join the class at any time, since tuition is tailored to the needs of the individual.

Nick offers the same class at his studios in Salisbury through Atelier Art Classes, for more information about the teacher visit nickleavey.com.au
