Is there any action movie more well known than Die Hard? Released in 1988, this American action thriller was directed by John McTiernan and written by Steven E. de Souza and Jeb Stuart. It starred Bruce Willis and was released by 20th Century Fox. Die Hard is about a wise-cracking, foul-mouthed, off-duty New York City Police Department officer called John McClane (Willis), who decides to take on twelve terrorists on his own after they crash a Christmas party being held in a skyscraper on Christmas Eve and take everyone in the building hostage.



Die Hard made Bruce Willis an action star and the film went on to have a huge cultural impact. It has been named one of the best action films and one of the best Christmas films of all time and it helped to establish the formula for the modern action film as well. Prior to the release of Die Hard, action films starred big action commando type characters stars like Arnold Schwarzenegger, Harrison Ford and Sylvester Stallone. Die Hard was the first film to be about an average American "everyday man" with a blue collar job and an itchy trigger finger who gets pitted against a group of moustache twirling villains. This became known as the "everyday man" trope and has been a popular plot device of the modern action film ever since.

Die Hard will be returning to cinemas in December at Event Cinemas as a Christmas themed #inthehouse cult film classic special. The movie will be screening at Event Cinemas Innaloo on Monday, December 3 and Wednesday, December 5 at 6.30pm.
