Dickson Asian Noodle House is located in centre if the Dickson shops, less than 10 minutes north of the city. The suburb of Dickson is known as "the place to go" for authentic Asian cuisine, with a wide range of Vietnamese, Chinese, Laos, Korean and Malaysian restaurants all in the one location - just walk along and take your pick!
If you are after a wide range of Asian cuisines in one place, then open the door to the Dickson Asian Noodle House. It has a wide variety of Asian specialties and also the reputation of offering the "Best Laksa in Canberra". Our family decided to visit on a Sunday lunchtime and we were the first ones into the restaurant - so we happily sat down and waited for the taste sensation to begin!
Colourful and welcoming at Dickson Asian Noodle House
As Dickson Asian Noodle House had been recommended by a Weekendnotes reader as having the best Laksa in Canberra, we really couldn't go past ordering bowls of the creamy goodness. They have a wide range of meat choices (see here for menu), with half size and jumbo size available. As our order was so easy, we then searched the menu for something that our young daughter would like. Thankfully she enjoys her noodles, so we ordered the Chicken Hokkein Noodles and the gentleman who took our order said we could take home whatever she didn't eat.
While we had decided this, out table had been provided with a bottle of water and bowl of delicious prawn chips to keep us going until the food arrived. Within minutes of ordering however, the steaming hot meals were delivered in front of us - smelling amazing and tasting even better!
Combination Laksa - A spicy, full flavoured curry and coconut broth served with wheat noodles and rice vermicelli, chicken, pork and duck combination garnished with bean curd and vegetables ($14.50).
Everyone has different tastes when it comes to "heat" in their dishes, however I think everyone would agree that the Dickson Asian Noodle House Laksa is full of creamy flavour, with just the right amount of heat. The creaminess in particular of the coconut and red curry broth was a highlight, with the bowl full of visible and tasty ingredients sitting on top. It is easy to see how this particular Laksa is rated as the best in Canberra by many people - although check out Asian Noodle House in Civic, Woden, Belconnen and Tuggeranong for another top one to try!
After ordering such a big plate of Hokkien noodles, we were relieved to find that our daughter was in noodle heaven with her lunch and takeaway (except perhaps for those cheeky greens that were hiding underneath!). After trying some ourselves, we could easily see why, with a mild and delicious flavour that is perfect for kids. As we chatted to the friendly gentleman who served us, he said that if our daughter wanted to try Laksa herself next time, they could make a milder one in a smaller bowl that wasn't so hot. It was a suggestion we may have to take up next time...and there will be a next time!
Don't walk past Dickson Asian Noodle House - open the door for the best Laksa in Canberra!
