An evening of pantomime the whole family will enjoy
Pantomime has been performed in the United Kingdom since the 17th century. The modern form, mostly presented around Christmas, is popular entertainment for families and is available right here in Perth. From 18 November to 3 December the UWA Graduate Dramatic Society (GRADS) will be presenting the story of Dick Whittington and his Cat. This rollicking adventure tale is sure to delight the whole family.

Follow the adventures of young Dick Whittington who went to London to make his fortune. He has to fight the King Rat and his rat pack, aided only by his faithful (but sarcastic) talking cat, and the occasional magic of Fairy Bowbells. Will he win through and gain the heart of the beautiful Alice? Children love his visits to a gypsy camp, a pirate ship, and the cooking pots of the native tribe of a desert island. There will be plenty of chances for kids (of all ages) to get involved in the laughs and the action of this timeless tale.

GRADS is a community theatre group based at the University of Western Australia. GRADS' objective is to present high quality plays mostly chosen from the classic repertoire, both ancient and modern. GRADS aims to put on three productions annually, and for the past 20 years, has presented a play in the New Fortune Theatre every summer.

An open-air stage inside the University's Arts Building, the New Fortune Theatre offers a unique experience. Galleries on three levels and on all sides provide an immersive experience similar to that of the original Fortune Playhouse (London, c. 1600).
