Looking for something to do to keep the kids entertained that isn't going to cost the earth this weekend? Pop them in the car and head out to the Diamond Valley Miniature Railway at Eltham Lower Park, Main Road Eltham (Melways reference 21 H10). Diamond Valley Miniature Railway operates every Sunday from 11am to 5pm and tickets are just $3, with children under 2 years riding for free. The railway also operates on some public holidays and on Wednesdays during the Victorian school holidays. Visit the DVR website for more information on operating times.

When you hop on the train the steam and whistles all make it feel like you are travelling back in time to the 20th century. The track winds through native bush and under tunnels and bridges much to the delight of the passengers on board. The ride goes for approximately 20 minutes and enthusiastic volunteers from the Diamond Valley Miniature Railway Society make the trip even more memorable.
There are plenty of other activities at the park!
There is a kiosk available where snacks can be purchased and free BBQs over near the children's playground if you feel like staying for a bite to eat afterwards. More action can be had on the circular bike/walking track that meanders along the Yarra River.
