Sir Charles Spencer Chaplin, professionally known as Charlie Chaplin, was a comic actor, music composer, and filmmaker who went on to become one of the greatest stars in Hollywood in the era of silent film. He famously once said, " A day without laughter is a day wasted."

How true. I hadn't realised how little I've laughed since the invasion by Covid until a recent night out at Sunnybank Theatre. To be even more honest, I'd forgotten how good it felt to put lipstick on for an evening out. That wretched bug certainly has created some changes to our lifestyle, hasn't it!

Toddling off to Sunnybank Theatre at 14 Mains Road (Cnr Beenleigh Road) Sunnybank, was an adventure in itself. A converted church the venue is intimate and comfortable with bar facilities, an inviting courtyard for social interaction, onsite parking, as well as wheelchair access (and lifts). Good start. You can learn more here.

Diablo's Comedy Show was just the tonic we needed to lift our spirits. Founded and produced by a local in Mick Wells, the show introduced eight stand up comedians with their different approaches to the genre. I know, eight performers sounds like a lot coming at you in one sitting but their allotted times were relatively short stints negating any possible boredom issues. Also, they each focused on different topics from migrant themes to those of motherhood and relationships, from laconic to bullet-paced delivery.

Lindsay Webb linked the performers as MC and his experience shone through, along with his fun audience interaction. The other comedians on the night included Shayne Hunter, Liam Daley, Ashwin Segkar, Mary Gore, Anisa Nanduala, co-founder of Diablo's Comedy Luke Lewis, and Mick Wells - all available on Instagram. All had their own style and quirks and it was beaut seeing a couple of fresh faces on stage, which is a giveaway as to how long it's been since we've had a night out.

Did I favour one comedian over the others? No, each were individual and entertaining though I will admit to no longer including corn on the evening dinner menu. It all boils down to prove too that top entertainment is not just relegated to the big city venues. Sunnybank Theatre was on fire on the night and I look forward to following further promotions and wearing more lipstick.

Diablo's Comedy is also on Instagram and contactable at 0466 445 666. Recommendation: excellent therapy and next time I'll organise a group of mates to tag along. And better still, this performance had a 9:30 finish time so home early on a school night. Yay.

I would update Chaplin with,"A day without laughter and lipstick is a wasted day."
