Di Chiera's, we are very proud to say, is our corner deli. We first discovered the delightful things to be found in this store when we were moving into our current house seven years ago and my husband popped down the road to get some rolls for lunch. No, not a ham and salad roll but the Rolls Royce of rolls, the Di Chiera's Conti Roll; a perfect crusty Italian roll packed with a selection of tasty deli treats. The type of roll in which salad is essentially a garnish. Absolutely delicious.
We quickly discovered a very special selection of cheeses, antipasto and meats on offer, including our all time favourite, Bresaola; melt-in-your-mouth air-dried beef sliced wafer thin. Oh joy!
The Di Chiera family and their staff are great. For our kids 'Di Chiera's' means being showered with adoration and coming home with something yummy. The 'Di Chiera ladies' as they are known in our family, take a keen interest in what we order and are spot on with recommendations.
After a recent trip to Italy, we wanted to re-create a really beautiful baked polenta dish that we'd enjoyed. We knew it used used four particular cheeses - Di Chiera's staff knew exactly which cheeses. That evening our kitchen smelt divine and transported us back to that lovely lunch in Citta Alta, Bergamo.
Corner delis are under threat from big chains and larger stores but we are very happily doing our bit to keep this institution alive!
Next time you are entertaining, picnicking, or craving something really tasty for lunch, think about where your business and money goes and try our corner deli.
