Devour Cafe and Bread Ashmore is definitely not a place you would immediately pull the car off the road to check out. In fact, you probably wouldn't even notice it wedged between stores like Anaconda and Spotlight. However, Devour has something most cafes do not, and it is definitely worth the little trip out of the way.
The main attraction of Devour is their bread, which is fresh, fluffy, wholesome and gluten free! If you suffer from Celiac, are just gluten intolerant or have just realed that gluten is not all that great for you, you probably know that tasty GF bread is hard to come by.
The Ashmore location is one of two, the other is located at DFO near the airport, so there are two locations to pick up your perfect loaf.
They serve GF and non-GF bread but I drive 45 minutes every week to get a few loaves of their gluten free range, so that tells you something about the quality. I'll be honest, I haven't even tried their wheat loaves yet.
The layout of the cafe is fresh and open, with a modern touch to the decor. The front patio area is large and open, leaving lots of room for kids to run around without bothering other guests, which is definitely a plus in my books for a rambunctious toddler. The staff are very pleasant and understand cross contamination of foods so if they say something is GF you will not be getting any gluten.
I usually order a flat white to have with a freshly made fluffy scone and while the flat white isn't perfect, the quality of the coffee they use is on point so it makes up for the lack of expertise on the baristas part. Needless to say, I do not go here for the coffee but if you were, it will definitely satiate your need for a coffee fix with simple, good flavour and large servings.
While the Devour Cafe and Bread is a simple, no-frills cafe, it serves quality product at affordable prices and I have come to enjoy a visit every week for my gluten free bread.
