Best Fine Dining Cafe in Surry Hills
Since my good friend work in Surry Hills, we always attempt to try something different and something new for our catch-ups. There is a little unpretentious fine-dining cafe in Surry Hills and all foodie circles are raving about it.

Today is a special day to check it out ourselves.

More and more fine dining chefs are breaking away from the posh pricey restaurants and moving into casual wallet-friendly dining cafes that is more accessible to the general public.

At Devon Cafe, we've got two former Guillaume chefs cooking up a storm. That is enough to get gourmet diners to flock into Surry Hills and check this place out.

The thoughtful menu changes with the seasons and I am keen to see their latest creations.

If you think you will experience another cafe breakfast, think again.

I will be upfront, Devon Cafe is not definitely not your typical Surry Hills/inner west cafe despite the fierce amount of competition in the Sydney breakfast/brunch scene. It is the town's new favourite star cafe, and justifiably so.

We arrive early but the place is already 90% occupied with keen diners. There is an nice cosy backyard to enjoy your meal.

We sit at the front section of the cafe where there is a lots of natural light with a minimalist Scandinavian decos. You know Devon Cafe is serious about their coffee when you see a large drip-coffee instrument placed at the centre of the communal table.

These fries are golden and crisp. A perfect starter to our meal.

I couldn't resist ordering the limited edition Breakfast with the Sakuma's ($24.50). It is essentially a miso grilled king salmon, served with a smoked eel croquette, 63' egg and a refreshing radish petite salad with kewpie mayonnaise on the side.

This is definitely not your typical breakfast, rather it is quite an upscale spectacular dish, a regal breakfast fit for a king. The dish is elegant, delicious and perfect to have on a good sunny day. Just cut through that 63' egg and watch the golden runny yolk flow over the perfectly grilled miso salmon - it is pure magic in the making.

The breakfast was delicious and tasty. The salmon was cooked so well that it melts in your mouth. The serving was quite substantial.

The price is higher than your normal Big Breakfast meal but I can assure you the quality and the wow factor will surpass your expectations. It is worth the dollars.

This is definitely is the winning dish for me.

The designer fig and rocket salad ($12) is chic and colourful.

The plating of all the fresh ingredients (fig, pear, rocket, almonds, grana, witlof and radicchio in balsamic dressing) give this lovely salad dish a vibrant appearance that is pleasing to the eyes.

Your taste buds will love every bite of this healthy flavoursome salad.

Based on this meal, I would say Devon Café ranks firmly in my top three places for breakfast in Sydney. It is slightly pricey for Surry Hills (probably not a place to go everyday) but I am keen to return and try their other fine seasonal creations.

The hype is definitely worth it.
