Having spent the last few years living abroad I now wish to rediscover my home city of Sydney to keep that 'travelling feeling' and share my findings with those that might want a bit of inspiration.

A divine evening at deVine
On the eve of Sydney's Easter long weekend a girlfriend and I decided to avoid the masses heading to the large establishments and head to an establishment that we had frequently walked past but never entered – deVine on Clarence Street.

As we entered it appeared that there were no vacant tables. However within a moment a helpful staff member escorted us through a corridor and into a back room not visible from the entranceway; we didn't realise it even existed. Lesson number one – don't presume a venue is full without speaking to the staff; you never know what hidden alcoves await. This 'secret to the street' room was a delightful candle-lit alcove full of intimate tables and chairs; predominantly a romantic restaurant feel. We were happy to see that plenty of others like us were just there for a drink and not for a meal.

The ambience was warm, romantic and invites you to linger. Acoustics were perfect; quiet enough that you didn't need to raise your voice to speak to your companion yet a buzz of conversation in the background to maintain a happening vibe.

Two glasses of rose were chosen; out of a variety of two. Unfortunately short rose list however there are multiple whites, reds and cocktails available. Priced at $12 it felt quite steep compared to local establishments however the tone of the establishment justified the price-tag. Not many of the new inner-city small bars retain the feeling of sophisticated class to suit all ages as they battle it out to top the 'cool' charts but deVine ticked all the correct boxes.

An extensive tapas/sharing menu complements the drinks menu and there is also a restaurant menu for those who are in the market for a full meal - click here for details. The veal bruschetta is lovely with well balanced flavours at $14. The wait-staff were extremely friendly, professional and welcoming throughout our entire evening and I would highly recommend this venue for a multitude of occasions; whether it be a romantic date or even somewhere to send your boss. You will not be let down by wine, food, décor nor service. So allow yourself to indulge on your next night out and visit deVine wine bar for a truly divine night out.
