Tucked in a convenient location amid the hustle and bustle of Westfield's extensive emporiums, you will find refreshments of an exotic kind. Forget the lure and heaviness of rich chocolate cake, the calories of cheese cake and the sweet pleasures of Pavlova. It's time to explore healthier alternatives to tempt your taste buds and Dessert Story is the place to go. Offering the best Taiwanese and Hong Kong home-style desserts, Dessert Story has recently opened its doors in Doncaster. For other venues in Melbourne click here .

The setting is open-plan. Several red lanterns hang over the main counter and the décor of blackboard walls imprinted with the outline of many books create an atmosphere where you can relax, relate and revitalize culture. Create your own story of sweet memories as you savour your meal. You can choose to read a book as you feast on 'green bean tofu pudding' or pick at your friend's 'grass jelly in red bean soup.' If that is a bit of a mouthful for you, then you'll be pleasantly surprised with the serving size and the variety on offer.

It's definitely for those with an adventurous spirit and is the perfect place to come after dinner. James, the store manager says that it's very popular after 8pm. I would imagine a following of movie goers as well as families. Village Cinemas is located a few levels up, and the offer to take advantage of is 'happy hour' which is from 4pm to 7pm Saturday to Wednesday. This fits in nicely with Village's discount Tuesday. Check their details here .

Here's what I chose to delight myself with on one occasion; milk snow ice with crystal jelly and mango juice with popping pearl. It costs $10 and the serving was enough for two people. It was simply mouth-watering. The textures were complex and exciting; soft, light and flaky with smooth sweet mango flavours. There are also soups on offer. That's smart thinking for the wintery seasons, and especially important to Melburnians whose winters stretch into the summer months.

The secret to the success of Dessert Story lies in the quality of ingredients used, the home-style recipes and the value you receive. Prices range from $5 to $11 for desserts. You can also choose to purchase smoothies, soups and hot and cold beverages here. Opening hours are Monday to Sunday from 11am to 10pm. Below is a quick outline of the "series' on offer.
