My parents were thrilled when they discovered the Asian dessert place, Dessert Story at Gouger Street, Adelaide. Asian desserts are different from Western desserts in that they are not based around pastries, cream and chocolate. They often use ingredients that are considered to be beneficial to health, such as herbal jelly and ginkgo nuts. When we went there, we had Herbal Jelly with Barley, Pearl and Sweet Potato, Snow Ice with Black Sesame and Peanut and Mochi with Crushed Peanuts.

Snow Ice with Black Sesame and Peanut consists of a mound of snow ice topped with black sesame paste and crushed peanuts. The snow ice was very light, refreshing and was set off nicely by the black sesame paste. The peanuts were a good contrast to the soft snow ice.

Although it is not one of my favourites, the herbal jelly in the Herbal Jelly with Barley, Pearl and Sweet Potato had the right texture complemented nicely by the ingredients that came with the dish. This dish can be ordered as a hot or cold dish. When we went there, we chose the first option.

The mochi in the Mochi with Crushed Peanuts was perfectly cooked with a lovely contrast provided by the crushed peanuts. While I enjoyed this dish, it is not one of my mum's favourites. She does not like the sticky texture of the mochi.

My dad loves the Cantonese and Mandarin songs played at the restaurant but mum thinks they played it too loud.
