Despite the fact we live in a throwaway society, there is a segment of the population who are becoming more wise to the amount of money we spend on single use items. And as much as we might hate to admit it, we have all spent an outrageous amount of money on a dress for a special occasion that we never wore more than once (and I don't just mean wedding dresses).
This is the brilliance behind designer dress hire shop The Library Dress in Claremont. Run by the beautiful Phoebe Longwood, The Library Dress offers a range of ballgowns and cocktail dresses by local, national and international designers, as well as some of Phoebe's own designs.
The concept is elegantly simple: choose your dress, hire, wear and return. The hiring fee (which ranges between $70-$140) includes dry-cleaning, meaning you can be confident that the dress you choose will be both hygienically clean and easy on the pocket: and some of these dresses are stunning creations worth in excess of $1,200. Much easier to justify $140.
This gap in the market – outfitting women up to size 16 in stunning gowns – is soon to be closed, and over the next few months, more stock will be arriving in the larger sizes, including Phoebe's own designs.
The dresses cover a wide range of styles, and are suitable for women of all ages.
There are no set hours, instead The Library Dress operates on an appointment only system, but Phoebe is very accommodating and many of her clients prefer to come after-hours to enjoy the luxury of finding the perfect dress. Located next to the Claremont Quarter, the Library is hidden away on Stirling Road, making it easier to keep this a little secret between you and me and your bank manager.
And if you are a regular on the society circuit, or just like going out a lot, The Library Dress is making it even easier to shine (on a budget) by offering Frequent Dressers 50% off the cost of the 3rd hire.
They even provide a convenient all-hours dress return window.
You can make an appointment via Facebook, email (hireme@the librarydress.com.au) or phone (0417 019 605).
The Library Dress is discreetly located at the western end of Claremont Quarter
Whar a fabulous concept. I know more than 10 years later I still have my formal dress in the wardrobe - never worn again! Renting something very special is just superb! Btw, you are absolutely rocking that red number :)
