Des Ryan Pier located just beside Red Poppy Cafe at Second World War Memorial Swimming Pool Rockhampton, on 4 Sir Raymond Huish Drive, has been named in honour of Desmond Kearns Ryan since 2008. Using a wheelchair since he was 14 years old because of quadriplegia, Des never stops using his knowledge to assist those with a disability.

Completed with picnic tables, a gas BBQ, and a fish cleaning station, this pier is one of Rockhampton's favourite places for fishing. Des provided advice about the design of the fishing platforms, access ramps, pathway design, and open spaces for the Rockhampton Riverbank Redevelopment.
