Very affordable and fun photographer
A common misconception is that having professional photos taken is expensive. The great news is that for as little as $140 you can have a skilled photographer such as Derek from Derek Stalley Photography take professional photos, no matter what the occasion.
I recently had the pleasure of working with Derek and what a fun experience that was. Derek is a very warm and friendly individual with a great sense of humour and an amazing ability to make you feel relaxed in front of the camera. What impressed me even more was how he included my 12 year old son in the decisions about where and how the photos were to be taken.
Our shoot took place at the stunning Balmoral Beach. Derek had arrived at the beach earlier so he could work out the best locations, given the light at the time of the day. We were happy to be guided by his experience, but also made a few suggestions of how and where we would like the pictures taken.
Derek had gone well above and beyond the call of duty and in just over an hour had taken over 100 photos in various spots. He climbed in the bush and stood on the edge of a cliff, all in an effort to get the perfect shot.
And as a result, we not only had a wonderful afternoon, but also got lots of lovely photos.
Before we met for our photo shoot, Derek had sent us tips on what to wear to ensure the best possible outcome.
Tip #1 The simpler the better. Try to keep the number of different colours down to three or four. Colours should be similar, but not exactly matching on every family member.
Similar or complimentary colour tones and fabrics work well. For example, all the colours could be bright, or all subtle. If you have time and the inclination, lay all the clothes out on a bed, and see if anything stands out as not fitting in.
Colours that compliment your skin tones, hair and eye colour are fabulous; for example, a T-shirt with blue tones on a kid with bright blue eyes.
Try to avoid large logos, patterns or stripes on your clothing.
It will look better if you are in the same style – all dressy or all casual.
A single family member wearing a white shirt or dress when everyone else is wearing colours will make that person stand out more in the photo, so this is best avoided.
If you've never had professional photos taken or it's been a while since you have, why not book Derek for a family photo shoot. He travels all over Sydney and is available on the weekends and at times during the week. Within a week or two of the photo shoot, you will receive a CD with your photos. You can then choose which ones to print for your picture frames or even on canvas. Simply take the disk to your local Officeworks or even print them on your printer at home. And of course you can share them online via Facebook or other social networks.
Derek not only specialises in family portraits but is also available for weddings, parties, corporate functions and other special occasions.
