Mt Wilson is a quaint little village in the Blue Mountains National Park that is great for a day trip or a tranquil weekend away from the hustle and bustle of city life in Sydney. Resplendent in autumn and spring, you'll find a myriad of natural beauty that will alleviate stress and rejuvenate you.

Estates and gardens abound and are great for a stroll, and one such place is that of Dennarque Estate. The Victorian Georgian sandstone residence is one of the original eight houses built in Mt Wilson and its heritage-listed 24-acre garden has a collection of significant trees and plants from various countries around the globe that date back to the 1880s.

Colours of red, yellow and orange were upon me when I visited one autumn. It was magic for the mind and soul with a variety of different maple trees, flowers, ferns and garden greens beautifully manicured. In spring and summer, blasts of colour come from roses, wisteria, azaleas, hydrangeas, camellias, daffodils, violets and a lavender patch, with many more florals to admire.

Some unique silver sculptures add to the impressive gardens, as does the stone feature in the Japanese Zen area, the pond of koi fish, the pagoda, the oriental wooden bridge with its red railings and the gazebo.

There's plenty of places to rest or set down a picnic lunch and lots of lovely nooks and crannies that exude country charm, especially around the house. In parts, it screams 'Italian villa' with lovely lemon citrus trees and outdoor settings.

Dennarque is a private estate with gardens available to view on special open days. Coming up in Autumn 2021, they will be open 25th & 26th April, from 11am-4pm. Garden tours are available at 12pm and 2pm on the final day. Entry to the gardens is $15 per adult, with seniors discounted to $10 per person and children under 12yrs free. Eftpos facilities are available. Alternatively, you can view it by appointment (contact Ivana on 0427965696).

If you've been working from home but need a change of scenery, then Dennarque can help. Make the estate your new workplace. They are currently offering workspace in their conservatory for mid-week guests to use free of charge over the next few months. With free wifi and a tea/coffee station, it's a chance to get away and work in paradise with a fresh perspective, where time out can be had with a beautiful stroll in the gardens. Further information is available from Ivana on the above number.

A range of gorgeous accommodation is available on the estate too. Four cottages can be booked that come fully self-contained with cooking facilities and features such as fireplaces, areas for entertainment and outdoor terraces. You can view and book them here.

The estate is also a popular wedding venue that can cater for up to 50 guests. Both romantic and intimate, you can enjoy a sunset wedding, a chic cocktail reception or an enchanted candlelit banquet. Click here to view the wedding brochure.

A wonderful place to escape to, Dennarque Estate is a 2hr drive north-west from Sydney and open garden dates here coincide with that of other gardens in Mt Wilson. Yengo Sculpture Gardens are also spectacular and for something different be sure to visit the Turkish Bath Museum, steeped in history.

Note - Mt Wilson village has no shops or petrol stations, so ensure you stock up and fill up before you arrive.

A great place in great surroundings Irenke. Old buildings have a beautiful charm about them that modern ones don't. The gardens are an absolute gem.
