A visit to Triassic Park (Ipswich) is a must for any budding paleontologist or dinosaur-obsessed child. Located within the Denmark Hill Conservation Reserve, this park has played a crucial role in local history with the discovery of fossils in the early 1900s.

Triassic Park is accessed via the aptly named Triassic Circuit, an easy grade walk of approximately 200m return from the Quarry Street car park. This park is easily recognised by a central picnic shelter that resembles a Stegosaurus. This structure houses a collection of dinosaur footprints and replicas of fossils that were found in the area (at the time of our visit, part of the roof display was unfortunately damaged).

Information boards allow for easy identification of specific footprints. Children can compare the sizes of their own hands and feet to the prints of various dinosaurs. Of particular interest is a raised sandstone slab featuring 3 large footprints. My children were amazed by these prints and spent much time discussing and re-enacting the possible gait of this prehistoric creature.

Denmark Hill Conservation Reserve offers car parking, toilets, barbeques and picnic shelters. Refer to the map below to discover other interesting hikes and landmarks within the region.
