Lately, I've been dreaming about going out for breakfast or brunch and tucking into a cornucopia of colours and tastes accompanied by copious amounts of coffee. We all have our dreams and this is the simplest one of all, to get out of lockdown safely and to be able to gorge ourselves silly at our favourite haunts. Luckily Melbourne's cafes do continue to excel at breakfast, providing us with the perfect takeaway lockdown dishes to be enjoyed in the safety of our homes.
When I think of breakfast I think of pancakes slathered in syrups and fruits, waffles with a little coconut cream, toast with spreads, smooth oats drizzled with yummy toppings and for something extra refreshing I dig into the popular acai bowls. An acai bowl is a thick smoothie based bowl that is usually topped with granola and fresh fruit in such a beautiful presentation that it is an instant Instagram hit once posted online. There are a multitude of food trends that have come out over the years which have left me questioning why (rainbow bagels, ahem… freakshakes because where do you even start with this monster), but when it comes to acai bowls, the buzz is well deserved and continues to be so.
I personally believe that acai bowls can be enjoyed at any time of the year and I have no hesitation eating ice cream in the middle of winter which is why my adventure for an acai fix led me down to Delicia Acai and Protein Bar. Within the small yet spacious store, you are presented with a beautiful display of coffee and healthy treats as well as a menu board that is sure to lure in any hungry soul. Delicia pride themselves on their Acai (pronounced ah-sigh-ee in case you want to know), Smoothies, Raw Vegan Treats and Coffee and I dug into one of their large acai bowls like your basic kid in a candy store.
The beauty of an acai bowl is that it is pretty much like having the best dessert but for breakfast and in my case exactly like that as I began munching this lush treat at around 1pm. There is an energetic boost gained from the Brazilian superfood that makes up the purple smoothie consistency as well as the delightful crunch from the muesli and sweetness from the different fruit additions that will keep you going for the day.
Delicia Acai and Protein Bar is open Monday to Friday from 7:30am to 4pm, Saturday 8am to 3pm and Sunday from 9am to 3pm with options to takeaway or delivery by app.
While I did not have the award-winning coffee there, I will definitely be frequenting Delicia Acai and Protein Bar to continue going through the menu, with the assistance of my new loyalty card.
