Step Right In
Oh, for freaks sake - this show is crazy! There's a bearded lady and a tattooed man. One performer drills into his head, another plays with fire, others kiss snakes and swallow swords. One mad man juggles a chainsaw - a chainsaw that's running! Just who are these people? They are the entertainers who make up the most mind blowing sideshow act at the Fringe Festival - the people in the Deja Voodoo Freak Show, and you really must go and see their act.
It's not hard to miss their tent - it's the one where there's always a huge crowd gathered around. The performers at Deja Voodoo run teasers all throughout the day. You'll see samples of their whip cracking skills, you'll see The Lizardman with his green skin, sliced tongue and extensive body modifications, and you'll see the Space Cowboy do some incredible things with dingo traps, swords and meat hooks.
The audience is shown just a small portion of what they'll see inside the tent. Each time I've been to see this show the tent has been a full house. And, why not? It's great value and is the kind of show you'll see just once in your lifetime (more if you come back and queue again). Entry is only $10 for adults and $5 for children. The shows last for approximately 25 minutes and I guarantee that you will remember this show, and the people in it, forever.
You'll cringe and gasp and you'll want to cover your eyes, but you won't. Because this is the freakiest show you'll ever see and you'll stare in wonder at everything they do. It's all so dangerous and death (or serious injury) defying. They are brave and maybe just a little bit crazy? Yeah.. they are definitely crazy!
If you're a keen photographer then get yourself and your camera along to this show. Audience members are invited to take as many photos of their show as you like, but photographers are asked to keep the flash turned off.
The travelling show was previously known as Sideshow Wonderand but have gone through a re-branding and are now known as Deja Voodoo. With the new name are new performers and new acts. Deja Voodoo travel the globe and have a huge worldwide following.
You can find the Deja Voodoo Freak Show in the Garden of Unearthly Delights. To find their tent, just listen for the screams and gasps of the crowds. They perform all through the afternoon and evening and will be in the Garden for the duration of the Adelaide Fringe Festival.
