Have you ever wanted to learn how to dehydrate food? There is an art to this and now you can take a lesson to learn all about it.
Did you know that dehydrating is the oldest method of food preservation? Dried fruits, herbs, spices, teas, vegetable chips, and soup mixes are all made using this very old technique. These can now be easily made at home for a fraction of the shop bought price. This is especially so if you grow your own food!
This workshop will be held on Saturday 22nd June 2019 from 10.00 am to 12 noon. It will be held at Pocket City Farms, 31A Mallett St, Camperdown.
Maybe you have too much coriander or were given some lemons that you don't have time to use or know a fussy eater who doesn't like vegetables. Dehydrating can be used to solve all of these problems by preserving the goods for seasons to come. This can produce foods that add a new dimension to your meals and by creating foods that contain hidden goodness to dishes. Homegrown and homemade treats also make great personal gifts making them zero waste.
The good thing about this is that if you do not own a dehydrator you do not need to go to the expense of buying one. All of the techniques shown in this class can be replicated using an oven.
This comprehensive and hands-on workshop will cover all the basics you will require to dry products at home and these include:
Details about the three different methods of dehydrating. These are the sun, the oven and different sorts of actual dehydrators.
A discussion on the range of products that can be dried and other uses for dehydrators.
You will be shown how to make your own natural bath bombs using only food-grade ingredients and organic flowers. These make great inexpensive gifts and are a hit with children.
