A hearty meal at a good price
If you have a local Degani's, chances are everyone will know it. Most likely if you plan to meet for coffee it will be at Degani's. There's a very good reason for this. They make good coffee, hot and iced chocolate and the cakes and biscuits are worth the calories.

About twenty years ago the Diamond Creek Degani café and bakery used to be a fire station. It still has the original door that lifts up to the outdoor eating area. For those who don't remember that far back it's hardly recognizable. I wonder if they picked the red and black decor for this reason but don't bother asking the waitress as she probably was a toddler then.

This is the first time I have eaten lunch there and I discovered that the menu is extensive. They offer many hearty meals at a good price. No one finished their meals, not even the nachos that were shared.

Nachos with extra cheese

A favourite amongst the blokes was the bangers and mash with egg and bacon. I never thought I'd see my son struggle with any meal. The gnocchi was homemade and melt in your mouth style. It was served with a Cabonara sauce without cheese by special request.

Bangers and mash with eggs, bacon and more

My cheeky daughter chose the pancakes for kids. It clearly said two on the menu but she asked how many anyway and the waitress asked 'How many would you like?' I said two was enough but clearly it wasn't because it arrived with three pancakes and lots of ice-cream. That's the first time she hasn't finished her ice-cream. I doubt if Oliver Twist would even ask for more. Pity because they had a choice of twelve desserts and fresh cakes as well.

Please sir... no more
