Along the Albany Highway in the cosy country town of Williams lies the latest addition to Western Australia's chocolate scene. The is a small homemade chocolate cafe adding some much needed vibrancy to the long road south to Albany.



The opened it's doors in Williams in late December and has quickly become popular amongst the small local population. More importantly is the fact it finally gives tourists another interesting stopover on the dreary Albany Highway. That is a huge market just begging to be explored!

The shop is small but full of wonder. It's like a mini Charlies Chocolate Factory... I may just say that because when we walked in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was on the TV in the separate kids room. Yes, there is a separate kids room so you can browse the chocolate in peace.



The walls are lined with a big variety of chocolaty goodness all handmade by the owner. Peanut fudge, choc-coated ginger, various coffee/choc delights, truffles, needless to say there was chocolate for every taste. For those who have followed Bonnie's work from Busselton, you'll know all too well the effort that goes into her creations.

What always impresses me most is the service, and the owner was certainly very cheery considering she'd been up since the early hours of the morning making chocolate. We didn't even have to ask questions, instead being met with a smile and an in depth discussion about where the chocolate is sourced from, the history behind her choc-scapades, a walk through of all the taste testings, set up of current shop and thoughts on other chocolate makers around Australia. Country hospitality at it's finest!



The chocolate used is very smooth and easy on the teeth. I bought the peanut fudge and honeycomb crunch, the honeycomb had a perfect balance with a subtle sweetness to complement the smooth chocolate while the balance between peanut butter and fudge was pretty close to perfect. You can tell a lot of passion and pride goes into the produce.

What may be most remarkable about the is the prices. At most of WA's chocolate makers you can expect to pay $10 plus for anything - not to say it isn't worth that - but bags of chocolate here can be purchased for just $7! That's a bargain.



It isn't just chocolate either. The chocolate brewery serves coffees, toasties, nachos, ice creams and smoothies. While the food and drinks list won't win medals for originality it is good quality and as well priced as the chocolate. There are various non-edible items as well such as flowers, books and trinket boxes for just $3 (the missus was very impressed with these).

Besides a few other places like Williams Woolshed and Kodja Place in Kojonup, there really isn't too much to see on the way to Albany. therefore is an easy and worth wile stopover option two hours out of Perth. All I can say is good luck driving past a sign that says "Chocolate Brewery."
