When you think of New York, you may not think about deep sea fishing; that is, until you get there and remember that there is access to the Atlantic Ocean from different areas in and around the City. These include several charter companies in Brooklyn, Queens, and the Bronx (all just a quick subway ride away) as well as Long Island.

Brooklyn VI: Located at Pier 6 on Emmons Avenue in Brooklyn, this charter service offers day and night fishing charters. The company also offers some offshore trips, which leave in the late afternoon on one day and may last as long as two to three days. If you go on one of these, you'll be fishing for tuna, but you never know what else you may catch!

Riptide III: This fishing charter service is located at on Minnieford Avenue in City Island, which is in the Long Island area. Day and night fishing is available, and the type of fish you catch will depend on the time of year you go. Blackfish are generally caught all year long, while the warmer weather months bring such offerings as flounder, striped bass, and bluefish.

Capt. Mike: A short subway ride or drive to Queens gives you access to Capt. Mike, a charter boat service that starts its season on April 1 of each year. Again, depending on the time of year you go, you'll catch flounder, fluke, sea bass, or striped bass. Day trips are offered all the time, but night trips only occur on certain days, so you'll want to check the schedule if you're planning a night fishing excursion. His prices are very reasonable, also, and he offers special ones to senior citizens.

Capt. Mike likes to fish Jamaica Bay and is very knowledgeable about this area. He knows the best fishing spots, so from there it's simply a matter of whether it's your lucky day for deep sea fishing in New York or not.
