Deep Oceans exhibition at the oldest museum in Australia.

Come and see some of the strangest creatures you are ever likely to meet and find out how they survive deep, deep in the oceans.

This exhibition is a journey through the mysterious deep, showing scary things that lurk deep in the oceans we don't usually see or perhaps want to meet in real life. It's a whole different world down there. A bit like Jules Verne's Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea epic.

Giant Anglerfish with massive jaws and long teeth.

See a five metre model of the largest invertebrate on Earth - a giant squid. Meet a fathead found in the Tasman Sea 1000m deep called Mr Blobby the Blobfish and follow him on facebook. See and giant sea sponges.

There are colourful glow-in-the-dark and transparent creatures that survive where no light penetrates.

Dive to the depths in a replica of the Bathysphere and explore the first submersible to descend to the depths where light no longer exists.

Learn about what goes on under the waves with oceanographers technology.

This is no ordinary exhibition, there is something for every age. You can explore the exhibition during the day or you can take part in special night events.

Two Sleep Overs Nights: One night for Children and One night for Adults.

You will walk around the museum just like Ben Stiller's character; with just a torch and sleeping within the exhibition room. Are you game or will you have to bring your blankie or fluffy bear for extra comfort and protection?

  • The night begins with a fun night tour of the exhibition by torch light. The shadows on the exhibits will play tricks and make it even scarier.

You will certainly be hungry so dig in to the pizzas as you watch some specially selected DVDs. Later there will be a fun fishy activity to share, then try to sleep as you gaze up at the giant squid within the exhibition. It will feel like you are sleeping on the bottom of the ocean.

Wake up refreshed to a yummy breakfast and an experience to remember. A night you spent in Australia's oldest Museum. Pretty cool to tell your friends.

Your inner child and strong sense of adventure.

After the night walk, sit and watch a movie eating pizza, beer and wine. When you have scared yourself with the thought of having to go to sleep surrounded by whales, giant squids and things you have never seen before or want to ever see in person, there is an extra icky bonus. A hands on squid dissection workshop, how cool is that to feed your inner child. More fun than going to a fancy restaurant for the night.

Wake up trembling and grab a freshly brewed espresso to calm your nerves, you made it through the night so enjoy some fresh fruit and pastries for breakie.
