Delicious wholefoods cafe in Dulwich Hill
Dear Delicious is conveniently located next to Dulwich Hill train station and it is the local's favourite family and pet-friendly cafe. This cafe has a strong commitment to the community's happiness and wellbeing by going beyond just providing honest, wholesome and delicious food – they are also focused on encouraging healthy lifestyles and sustainable food practices.
If the word 'wholefood' brings out images of boring, bland, and 'too healthy' food options, Dear Delicious will prove you wrong. This inviting cafe can cater up to 100 people, with a large outdoor seating area with communal tables, outdoor picnic tables and a dedicated children's play area for the little ones!
Garden Oasis - Child's play with wooden communal bench tables, potted herbs and veggie gardens.
Dear Delicious has a keen focus on fresh, organic and free-range, and where possible, sustainability. The menu here changes often, to match what is available in terms of fresh produce and to ensure top quality fresh ingredients.
The menu offers honest, locally sourced and organic produce and it boasts a good range of meals from a raw acai breakfast bowl, avocado on black quinoa bread, eggs your way for breakfast to burrata salad, barramundi tortillas and falafel veggie burger for lunch. The drink menu is also quite comprehensive, with a large list of teas, hot drinks and juices.
The weather was lovely, so we decided to sit outdoors. There was a fresh, open feel about the whole place and indeed it was a pleasant escape from the city streets. My friend immediately ordered a Little Marionette coffee and it was a good wake-up call for her. We sat back and relaxed.
Fresh cold pressed juice Anti-Inflamm Cold Pressed Juice $8.95 L (Apple, pear, kale, cucumber, mint, ginger & maca)
Before we started our brunch, we ordered a cold-pressed juice. This juice was a perfect blend of apple, pear, kale, cucumber, mint, ginger and maca. This was a detox drink at its finest. Dear Delicious cold-pressed juices are something you must try after a big family BBQ feast. For $8.95, your body will thank you for, plus you will feel a lot better and less guilty.
Nourish Me Dear Hot Bowl $15.95 (Red Chicory, mung kichadi, fermented veggies, lemon tahini) Served with mung falafel $5.95 and house cured salmon $7.95
The all-day breakfast and lunch menu has a broad range of dining options. After some deliberation, I ordered the Nourish Me Dear Hot Bowl, which contained the healthy ingredients of red chicory, mung kichadi, fermented veggies and lemon tahini.
My friend opted for a 'typical' brunch dish - mushrooms on toast. She was a little surprised to receive the enchanting Mushroom Madness from the Woods dish. This dish was a wonderful blend of familiar and exotic flavours - there were 3 different types of aromatic sauteed mushrooms (button, enoki and wood-ear mushrooms) piled high on toasted sourdough. In addition, there was crispy kale, puffed quinoa, pearl couscous and two poached eggs! For a dish with seemingly simple ingredients, this was definitely a wonderful combination.
The crispy kale was so addictive moreish, I would be happy to sit back and have a bowl. In fact, I would suggest to Dear Delicious to introduce Kale Crisps as a side, I am sure this will become everyone's favourite when they come here.
The Strawberry Rose Dear Mess was highly recommended. It was definitely a visual pleasantry. It was like a textural breakfast dessert artfully decorated with rose infused coyo, strawberry & coconut gel, topped with shards of strawberry gum spiced meringue and a dusting of lemon curd & coconut soil.
Just look of this dish made our mouths water. We managed to polish it off even though we were no longer hungry. It was a pleasant fruity dish.
The Sydney cafe standards have improved dramatically, I can't believe we now can enjoy an indulgent dessert like this at a local cafe! This kind of dish is usually enjoyed in fine dining domains!
I ended our meal with a soothing herbal infusion tea because it sounded more exotic than just the usual offerings. My organic tea was filled with cardamom, cinnamon, liquorice, ginger, rose, peony & apple. It was indeed refreshing and the perfect finish.
Picture yourself enjoying a wholesome meal and a drink here.
