Diwali is an annual celebration that takes the opportunity each year to dedicate this Hindu festival that signifies victory of light over darkness, good over evil, knowledge over ignorance and hope over despair. Celebrated internationally, regardless of culture or religion, Diwali is a sign of new beginnings, a time to come together and experience a moment of rebirth and good fortune.

One of the highlights on the Deakin calendar, this year marks its 10th annual event and will be celebrated on Thursday 8 November 2018 at the Geelong Waterfront Campus, 1 Gheringhap St, Geelong from 5.45 - 9pm.

A free community event, you'll find cultural performances, a DJ, Indian market stalls, traditional food, henna tattoos, face-painting and free children's activities, culminating in spectacular fireworks on Geelong's waterfront. The dress code for this event is Indian cultural dress or neat casual.

Cultural performances will be held at Costa Hall at 5.45pm and Indian market stalls take hold at 7pm. You'll find traditional food, a DJ, henna tattoos, face painting, children's activities and more. Fireworks begin at 8.50pm, so come along to this significant event and enjoy the music, traditional and modern Bollywood dancing and the display of Rangoli Artworks, which are patterns on the floor using coloured powders and candles.
