Dead Letter Circus are kicking off their next Australian tour in WA, with shows in Bunbury, Fremantle and Perth. Blasting onto the airwaves in 2007, DLC's grandiloquent take on alternative rock took many by surprise. For me, it was like something I'd never quite heard before. The band's music frothed with confidence; the intensity at an all-time high, whilst never really leaving you feeling claustrophobic or trapped. It was a sound so new to my ears that I found it difficult to place it under a particular genre. All I can tell you is, I liked it. I liked it very much.

Their self-titled EP had them producing constant sell-out shows all across Australia, as well as a strong interest by major US labels. Triple J radio assisted in growing the band's hype by placed everything that the band released on high rotation. As far as live performances went, the band were festival favourites, with the choir of voices roaring both approval and vocalist Kim Benzie's lyrics with the passion of a frantic soccer crowd. As word of the band spread, their second EP was released in Japan, and the band was flown to LA to sample the catering and perform a string of label showcases.

Finally, after three years, the band released their debut LP (album) in 2010 with an imaginative, freshly refined sound. Band member Rob Maric explained upon its release that, "We've come a long way since our inception and we're reaching a point of our growth as artists where we are not afraid to open doors that were once closed. True art comes from taking risks and that's what we've done with this album. At the end of the day we write music that we love and that is the only formula we adhere to. If it doesn't give us goose bumps, then it's not worth our time and certainly not something we would want to release to our fans." The LP received an array of positive reviews and sent DLC on tours all over Australia and the US.

To anyone who has not heard of the band before, I strongly suggest you give them a listen. Their live performances are some of the best I've seen. I've witnessed the band play three times in the last two years, and there is a reason I keep going back. Dead Letter Circus rock.

Supporting them on their tour will be alternative rock band "Fair To Midland" (USA) and "Twelve Foot Ninja". Tickets are $28.60 to the Bunbury show and $30.60 to the Fremantle and Perth shows.

All events are for people aged 18 and over. ID is required. Tickets and more details are available from OZTIX .
