Had I not enjoyed the best cup of coffee in my life at
The Joyful Bellys I would never have known about De Groot Coffee Co.
I happen to think that good quality coffee equals good quality of life. I'm sure you agree. So once I'd heard about De Groot Coffee Co and tasted their divine coffee (black, unsweetened), I set off on a quest to find their roastery.

De Groot Coffee Co.
Their roastery is tucked away in the Industrial Area at Port Elliot. It's part of artsy enclave featuring a couple of galleries and a wet suit shop.

Roastery
Luckily for De Groot Coffee worshippers a sit-in cafe has been added to the roastery space so that we can sip on site.
There's fine tea available as well as iced coffee and chocolate, milkshakes and spiders. Delicate pastries, brownies and biscuits complete the deal.
Of course you can buy beans to take home or have them ground on site and the baristas are happy to consult on your taste preferences and advise on the best bean for you.

Beans or Ground
I ordered a long black that was made with 'Panama' Beans - milk choc sweetness, creamy texture with great body.
My husband ordered a flat white made from 'El Salvador' Beans -hazelnuts upfront with a sweet dark choc finish. We shared a white choc-berry brownie.
I loved it that we were given sparkling mineral water to accompany our coffee.

There's a small, free book exchange on site.

And if you go on a Sunday you can add a mouth-watering, wood-fired pizza from Jack at the Harborganics Pizza Van.

Try a fig and gorgonzola with prosciutto, rocket and balsamic reduction. It's divine.
