More than just a fun run, the de Castella Run2 Mend Minds is a family friendly event alive with loads of atmosphere. The Run (or walk if you prefer) may be the centrepiece of this event, but alongside you can enjoy the Runners World Mind and Body Expo featuring MAPrc mental health research stand, merchandise, Rise Yoga, Physios, Runners World, She Science, Hawthorn Tri Club, Vision Personal Training, jumping castle, petting zoo, face painters and, of course, sausage sizzle and food vans to keep your energy levels up!
Being held on Sunday 28th August 2016, the de Castella Run for Mental Health Research is set alongside Melbourne's picturesque Yarra River and offers three distances to suit all levels and abilities. There's the Vision Personal Training 5km walk or run, the Mizuno 10km run and the Nostra Homes 15km run for the more serious participant. Each event is held along the Kew Boulevard for the purpose of raising money to support the research into mental health at MAPrc (Monash Alfred Psychiatry Research Centre).
The de Castella Run also features the SmartStart for Kids program for kids aged 3.5 to 10. Kids can enter the 80-metre dash just for fun and to show everyone what they can do.
Participants can enter either individually, as a family or as a team. Early bird entry closes on the 30th June, so from then entry fees are $55 for adults, $45 for under 18, $120 for family of 5 and RunReady Kids $35. There are several other entry categories so be sure and check the website for full details.
The de Castella Run starts and ends at Xavier College Burke Hall, Studley Park Road, Kew. This event is certainly for the early birds! The 15km run kicks off at 7.45am, the 10km run at 8am and the 5km walk/run at 8.15am. The ReadyRun for Kids will be happening from 7.45am.
