When I saw the opportunity for a friend and I to win tickets to the DC quiz held in a pub, I had to try and win. I mean what's better than hanging out with a couple of like minded geeks, drinking beer and answering questions about Batman?
Kings Comics and Warner Brothers were the ones responsible for the evening and the purpose was to celebrate the new Batman Arkham Origins video game. Kings posted multiple questions on their Facebook page for people to answer and possibly win a ticket to the event. I was one of the lucky ones.
The event itself was held at The Local Taphouse, located on Flinders St, Darlinghurst Sydney. A European inspired neighborhood tavern that specializes in craft beers and a variety of pub food. The venue room was decorated with dimly lit lamps suspended in old birdcages, dark timber bookshelves stuck against the walls and the bar was stocked with all different kinds of beers and ales. Kings and Warner Brothers had generously set up a tab.
Rea Johnstone, a gaming and tech presenter was the official host for the evening. I and about 20 other people were lucky enough to participate in a group themed quiz night that involved questions about all aspects on the DC Comics universe; everyone from Shazam to Power Girl was mentioned. Split into teams, the prizes included goodie bags filled with Batman merchandise, comics and DVDs. Questions like: How is Power Girl related to Superman? And who is Wonder Woman's father in the new 52 relaunch comics? Had the crowd playfully arguing amongst each other as competitive personalities flared.
At the end of the night strangers that happened to be sitting next to each other became geeky friends, sharing their interests and even gamer tags over a few beers. It was a great opportunity to meet like minded people and win some cool prizes.
