If you've run out of local things to do with your kids during these school holidays, why not take a day trip out and about in one of the many places Victoria has to offer for families! Whether you are up for a small adventure or a full day, these range of trips is perfect for any family looking to enjoy all the great outdoors of Victoria, that will keep the kids entertained all day long.

Mornington Peninsula

If your kids love the sand, sea and sun, you can't go wrong with a day trip to the Mornington Peninsula. Roughly an hour drive away from the city, crystal clear water awaits on the bayside, or go surfing down at one of the back beaches or searching through rock pools. If the beach is simply not enough, go exploring in mazes, or picking strawberries at Arthurs Seat. You could even drive down to Sorrento and catch the ferry to Queenscliff and back (try to spot some dolphins and seals!) There is plenty for every family on the Mornington Peninsula.

Ballarat

If inland activities are more your thing, a day trip to Ballarat will serve your family up a whole realm of fun. Whether you want to experience the more traditional tourism Ballarat has to offer such as Sovereign Hill and Kryall Castle, or you want to adventure in the more scenic and nature-based fun like Lake Wendouree and Ballarat Wildlife Reserve, there is so much to do, you may just want to plan a few day trips here.

Phillip Island

If you're not aware of everything Phillip Island has to offer for families, you're going to want to head there straight away when you see the plethora of outdoor and indoor activities available. For an outdoor adventure, the Koala Conservation Centre, Nobbies, Antarctic Journey centre and of course, the Penguin viewing are all absolute favourites for kids big and small. For indoor activities, there is unlimited fun for kids, from mini golf at Amaze N Things, to creating your own chocolate at the Phillip Island Chocolate Factory. Choose a few things to get done in one day and stay back late to make sure you enjoy seeing the fairy penguins come to shore.

Warburton

The perfect summer family day trip may just lay here in the Yarra Ranges, with outdoor and free activities for children of all ages available. Mount Donna Buang is the towering destination for a picnic, stroll and amazing views, and La La Falls is a hike for older kids up a remarkable waterfall. Or just enjoy strolling along the Yarra River, and drive a little further to enjoy the spectacular sights of the Redwood Forest. Tire the kids out as they run around and explore in the forest, while only venturing out a few hours from the city.

Dandenong Ranges

The great outdoors are shown off in the Dandenong Ranges, making it a top choice if you're wanting to pack a picnic and head to a spectacular garden such as the Botanic Gardens or one of the picnic spots within Sherbrooke Forest. If you're after a big day out activity for kids, the ever-popular Puffing Billy Railway is an absolute must-do for younger children. For the bigger kids, Gumbuya World is not too far away, offering a water park experience during summer, and rides, animal experiences and more all year round.
