The Mount Mee section of D'Aguilar National Park is located approximately 60-90 minutes north-west of Brisbane. Immersed in eucalyptus woodlands, subtropical rainforests and tall gum trees, there are gorgeous picnic grounds, a number of short walks and pristine swimming spots that will be sure to please the whole family.



Start of your trip with a picnic at the Gantry Picnic Ground which is located 150m from the entrance to the national park, off Sellin road. The Gantry shed is a historical relic from the sawmill industry that operated here until 1981. This picnic ground is a grassy, spacious area with tables, BBQs, toilet facilities and plenty of room for the kids to run wild.

From the Gantry there are two walks. The Piccanbeen Walk, a 1km boardwalk circuit through piccanbeen palms and the 13km Somserset Trail, a walk through eucalyptus forests that has views overlooking Somerset Dam and Lake Wivenhoe.



If you continue further on past the Gantry along Nerum Creek Road, there are more walks on offer. The NPSR does recommend 4WD vehicles from this point onwards due to the unpredictability of unsealed roads. We were lucky that when we visited, the roads were dry and in good condition that it probably wasn't necessary to have a 4WD. We did see a couple of other 2WDs.

About 1km along the road, is another short, easy 800m return walk to Falls Lookout and Bulls Falls which offers scenic panorama views over Nerum Valley.



Continue on down Nerum Creek Road for another 1km or so and then turn right and you will come to the Mill Rainforest Walk. This was definitely one of my favourites, a 1.4km circuit through luscious rainforest with plenty of birds & other wild life to be seen.



Once back onto Nerum Creek Road, approximately 6km further down is Rocky Hole, a short 200m track that leads to a gorgeous rock pool, which is very popular with swimmers in summer. This was an amazing spot albeit there not being much water when we visited.



You can continue down Nerum Creek Road and you will end up somewhere north in D'Aguilar however we decided to turn around and head back to the Gantry and continue back home to Brisbane via Samford.

How to get here:
From South Brisbane, travel through Samford and Dayboro then follow Mount Mee Road (tourist route number 29) and Sellin Road to the park. From the north, turn left off the D'Aguilar Highway at Neurum Road (just north of Woodford) and follow it as far as Stanton Road. Turn left onto Stanton Road, then take the first right to stay on Stanton Road before turning right onto Rasmussen Road. Continue on Rasmussen Road for about 5km to the northern entrance of the park.
