A couple of weeks ago we did a day trip to Bendigo and decided to stay the night. I only wish we could have stayed for at least another day. Bendigo is a wonderful old town and the perfect place to stroll around and unwind. It has so many beautiful old buildings and some great new shops as well. There's even a very respectable sized cinema complex to catch a movie if you are so inclined.

We stayed at the historic Shamrock Hotel and loved it. This hotel has quite a history and more than a few reincarnations. Originally a restaurant built in 1854, it grew into a hotel around 1860. Our room was about $190 for the night and included breakfast.

During the day we sat out on the huge old verandah and enjoyed a glass of wine. Afterwards we strolled around town, looked in some shops, had a bite to eat, walked and shopped some more and then returned to The Shamrock for dinner. We ate out on the verandah again and I give the food and the service 5 stars.

Bob Boutique at 17 Williamson Street was one of my favourite shops. They sell some really quirky stuff, a lot of it has a Japanese feel to it. Check them out here .

Bags on Williamson at 30 Williamson St was another place I had trouble getting out of. Their range was fantastic and my husband and I both bought a wallet each. Very reasonable prices too.

All in all, a lovely way to pass some time and not to far from Melbourne. Oh yes, thanks to my husband for not minding featuring in my photos. No idea who the lady bending over is, though. Cheers.
