Only a few hours south of Sydney: Beautiful natural wonders
For those strapped for time and still eager to see some of the tucked away wonders of Sydney and surrounds, here is my family's one day escape to the Southern Highlands and Jervis Bay Territory (not in NSW to my surprise but in fact, it is its own territory similar to the likes of ACT).

Our spontaneity disguised as an itinerary:

7am - wake up

8am - start driving to Bowral

9:30am - arrive at Bowral

explore the town (the decor of the shopping arcades such as The Grand Hotel building resemble European architecture)

visit Gumnut Patisserie for their almond croissant (it was delicious!) and other fresh signature pastries

Salted Caramel Tart at Gumnut Patisserie in Bowral

visit Milk Factory Gallery and cafe for a quick bite and some contemporary art

12pm - drive to the nearby town of Moss Vale

12:15pm - arrive at Moss Vale

explore the town

12:45pm - drive to Fitzroy Falls

1pm - arrive at Fitzroy Falls

- take the track to the first (you can spot the 80 metres or so waterfall from the first lookout) and second lookouts (1.5km return)

First lookout on the Fitzroy Falls trail

2pm - drive to Hyams Beach

3:15pm - arrive at Hyams Beach

- take a look at Hyams beach store and cafe (if hungry you can grab a bite)

- watch some whales (if you can spot them) - the prime-time whale watching season is often between May and November.

4pm - drive to Sussex Inlet

4:30pm - arrive at Sussex Inlet

- take some more pictures

4:50pm - drive to Berrara (Conjola National Park)

5pm - arrive at Conjola National Park in Berrara

- make it for the beautiful sunset

Sunset at Conjola National Park

- the white sands (iconic Jervis bay)
- and precious pebbles
- and so much more

6pm - drive in search for dinner

locations available: Nowra (30mins), Huskisson (30mins), Wollongong (1hr 30mins)

8:45pm - arrived at dinner (The Taste of Shanghai in Hurstville - pan fried buns were a clear highlight)

- we went to Hurstville with a pitstop at Nowra for KFC because we were starving already

10pm - finished dinner and started heading home (just as the restaurant was closing as well)

Highlights: Catching the sunset at Conjola National Park and walking to the first lookout on the Fitzroy Falls trail
