Not going camping or away over the holidays? It is sometimes nice just to get up early, make a day of it and get away from the coast. Organise your playlist for the road and don't forget to pack a few of those Easter chockies to sweeten the trip.
Heading South here are a couple of places to stop off at:
Byron Bay
Up an at 'em! Head to
Byron Beach Cafe , just right on Clarkes Beach in Lawson Street. It is a fabulous place to start the day, and the food is delicious. Afterwards, the choice is yours; relax and stay longer, head to the beach or head on up to the lighthouse to check out some amazing views.
I love the atmosphere and vibe of Byron Bay. Wander around and check out the amazing artistic quirky and funky shops. Byron is also a great place to people watch. The Byron Bay Markets are held on the first Sunday on the month at the Butler Street Reserve from 8.00 a.m. Just perfect for an Easter Sunday!
For all blues lovers don't forget, and it is quoted as "the best festival", the
Byron Bay Bluesfest is on from 2nd of April to the 6th of April. A huge lineup of artists and bands playing including Sheppard (3rd April at 11.00 am). Go to the
website to book tickets.
Brunswick Heads
Brunswick Heads has always been a favourite. With the great river to camp beside, not to mention fish,
kayak, stand up paddle board or even just ride along.
Saturday mornings in Brunswick will come alive with the Markets, held on the first Saturday of the month at Memorial Park.
Hotel Brunswick Brasserie on Mullumbimbi Street is a great stop over for a casual leisurely lunch in their river front beer garden. Very family friendly here. Afterwards head across to the park for a game of footy or a walk along side the river. For beach lovers, there is also the beach just up the road.
Tumbulgum
We came across this spot by accident just north east of Murwillumbah, a charming town nestled on the banks of the Tweed River with cute gift shops and cafes. It is also a beaut place to put the boat in or tuck into a picnic lunch beside the river.
If you didn't bring a picnic, then the best place for lunch is just across the road at the
Tumbulgum Hotel , known as the "Tumby Pub" on Riverside Drive. An awesome place to catch up with friends over scrumptious meals and burgers. Good kids menu and playground to boot too. An even more awesome place to spend a winter afternoon sitting and just chilling beside a roaring fire.
There is so many things to see and do in this beautiful, laid back and relaxing part of the country. A fantastic place to explore with great national parks right on our door step. Check out
