The idea for our unplanned day trip was only to head south from Brisbane, towards Byron Bay. However, we decided to 'stop right here' in Pottsville. It had that kind of chilled out, relaxing feel and we certainly felt the 'call out' for us to stop here. Pottsville's beach is fabulous, as are the other adjoining beaches along this coastline.
"Pottsville, you really are a delightful place to 'potter around'. Yes, that's it, the classic play on words. But then I thought a bit more and wondered
"Where did Pottsville actually get its name from?"
Well, of course, I had to then google it, I mean that's what we all do these days, when we have a question, don't we?
Here is what 'Google had to say' from Wikipedia
"Bill Potts owned the first house in Pottsville around 1930 and the location was initially named Potts Point. Soon though, the town was renamed Pottsville to alleviate any confusion with the place of the same name in Sydney''
Ahh, so there you have it! With Pottsville only being an easy 1/5 hour drive from the centre of Brisbane, there is no excuse to get on down there for a day, if you haven't been.
Just north of Pottsville are Hastings Point and Cabarita Beach, both very different and also worth exploring. Neither appeared overly busy with tourists.
