It always sounds so blissful tripping around Tasmania in a campervan. The island is compact and there are some 50 caravan parks with picturesque names such as Snug Beach, Gumleaves, or Crayfish Creek.
What a trip. The people you'll meet, the places you'll go.
But as anyone who has spent some time in the cramped confines of a campervan will tell you. "It ain't all bliss."
You can get to know someone's idiosyncrasies a little too well in close confines.
Or what about staring at four walls when the weather fails you. Or perhaps up at the ceiling which is just above your nose if you are sleeping above the cabin. Then there is the mounting pile of laundry and the indignities of trekking to the toilet in the dark, and then the communal showers. And for some, the worst of all deprivations, no TV or Internet.
But there is a chance to balance the ledger and to prop up the positive side of the holiday. Mercure Hotels have organised two pit-stops for those travelling around the Apple Isle. You can indulge in one of their 'Day Stay & Refresh' packages in either Launceston or Hobart.
Mecure Launceston a chance to stretch your legs
The package costs $65 and it means you can utilise the hotel's extensive facilities for the day between the hours of 9am and 5pm.
You can stretch out on a bed, watch some TV, go to the gym, get laundry done and make good use of the complimentary in-room internet to organise the rest of your trip or do some online supermarket shopping.
You can place a supermarket order for essential supplies on arrival and then have these delivered to the hotel and stocked in the van before you hit the road again. This enables you to luxuriate in your day's stay without having any chores.
For an additional charge you can even get the interior of your campervan cleaned.
Then come 5 o'clock you are totally recharged and once more into the fray.
