Just up from Anna Bay is Stockton Beach and the massive expanse of sand dunes.
We used Dawson Tours for our first attempt at sandboarding. They take you over the dunes in a 4 wheel drive to where they have their board kiosk set up (a small adventure in itself!).
They give you instruction and start you off on a small slope to practice sitting on the board sled style. Then, once confident, you move over to the big dune. Daunting at first, the initial push off the edge gets the heart racing, but the squeals of joy are contagious. Even my three year old loved the big dune.
The more adventurous can try standing on the board as they go down the dune, but remember, every time you slide down, you have to walk back up. It's a great energetic way to spend a couple of hours, in a very spectacular setting.
