I have a dozen or so comedians I turn to, to pick me up if I'm having a hard day and I have added David Nihill to my list. I discovered David when he performed at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival and have gone on to watch him online.
Always a proud Irish man, David has travelled extensively. His comedy and masterful storytelling draw on the hilarious cultural observations he has made from the 12 countries he has lived in and 70 he has visited. In his show
Shelf Help, David held the attention of his audience masterfully as he darted off on hilarious tangents and then looped back around to tie one thing after another back to his starting point.
If you think comedians are only able to make you laugh, David expands the capacity of a comedian to educate as well. David proudly tells the ironic story of the Irish "Grapefruit ladies" whose refusal to handle South African grapefruit caught the interest of anti-apartheid greats such as Rev, Desmond Tutu and Nelson Mandela.
After struggling to read as a child due to dyslexia, David has gone on to be an avid reader who references influential books in his show, which is subtitled 'Reading Recommendations.' Apart from regaling the audience with interesting facts from the books he recommends, David says he finds adding the mention of books to be a "crucifix to bogans" and ensures a better clientele at his shows.
David's online videos (and book recommendations) can be found on YouTube
here or his webpage
here . I hope you enjoy his comedy as much as I do.
