Australian musical genius and piano supremo, David Helfgott, will be touring Australia as he says a final goodbye to fans on his Farewell Tour throughout July and August 2024.

About David Helfgott
David Helfgott is a world-renowned concert pianist who began playing piano at about the age of four under the strict and dominant direction of his father, Peter. After international recognition and offers to study overseas based on his undeniable talent, David suffered nervous breakdowns during the 1970s and spent most of the decade in and out of psychiatric hospitals.

David later found love with his wife Gillian Helfgott who supported and encouraged him to return to the concert stage.

Having toured the world, David's stage unique and unforgettable performance has wooed audiences and was described by Louise Keller who wrote:

"Eyes open, we see a man who embraces not only the music but the audience. He chatters nonstop and incorporates his version of singing along with the music. He is clearly having the time of his life. He sits upright. Then his back is hunched as he leans over, his face almost touching the keys. His exuberant face turns to the audience, the crinkles around his expressive eyes exaggerated as he somehow interacts with them intimately. An invisible lasso shepherds the audience into his world. His unique world. Visually, the scene is extraordinary. It almost overshadows the music. Almost."

David Helfgott's remarkable life story was the subject of the outstanding 1996 biographical drama Shine starring Geoffrey Rush who won an Academy Award for his portrayal of David. In a role which elevated him onto the international artistic stage, Rush, born in Toowoomba also went on to become Australian of the Year and continue to star in and be applauded in major motion pictures such as The Kings Speech and Elizabeth.
