Ricky Gervais' much loved (or hated) character, David Brent last graced our TV screens in The Office Christmas Specials in late 2013. Craving the limelight once more, David has invited a film crew to document his final attempt at rock stardom.

At the beginning of the film we see David Brent back in an office and in his natural state of causing offence to anyone in his path, however, it seems that now he isn't the manager, colleagues are not as patient with his antics.

Don't expect any cameos from original cast members, but do expect the same cringe-worthy moments of awkwardness that became David Brent's trademark.

The story follows David on his three week, self-funded tour of surrounding suburbs with the obliging but not overly enthusiastic members of his newly formed band, Foregone Conclusion (Mark II). He has also brought in a type of hype man in Dom Johnson, played by comedian and rapper, Doc Brown.

David Brent performs every gig with a confident stage persona that wouldn't be out of place on the main stage at Glastonbury, however it is sorely unwarranted. As was expected by everyone except David himself, the venues are not overflowing with young fans or record labels lining up to offer him a record deal. Although we do learn that pretty much everyone wants a free T-shirt.

The music in the featured songs throughout the film is actually pretty impressive. However, the lyrics of songs like Native American for example leave a little to be desired. I really do hope they release a soundtrack though!

In a nutshell, if you loved The Office, you won't be disappointed. There were moments where I had my face in my hands from disbelief that somebody could be so obliviously misguided. Ultimately though, it was a heartwarming film about a man who you'd hate to share a cubicle with, but you still find yourself rooting for.
