David Robert Jones, known by his stage name David Bowie, shot to fame in 1969 as his first fictional persona Major Tom with the hit song Space Oddity, inspired by Stanley Kubrick's film 2001: A Space Odyssey. The 1970s saw Bowie embrace glam rock introducing androgynous and otherworldly being Ziggy Stardust singing Starman. Throughout the 1980s,1990s and 2000s Bowie collaborated with many artists in music, fashion, theatre, art and film, to become a major influencer in today's contemporary popular culture.
